Young Families Class: The Deepest Place: Suffering & the Formation of Hope

In the face of personal and global suffering, is it possible to live with hope rather than despair? This semester with the help of author Curt Thompson, we will look at how God transforms our grief into a lasting peace that surpasses all understanding.

Suffering is a defining reality of life. Yet so many of us are so focused on avoiding discomfort that we've never learned how to actually suffer. But what if we could move from anxiety to durable hope?

We will explore how the Apostle Paul's experience of love, secure attachment, and the deeply felt sense of God's abiding presence carried him through the challenges he faced--and how it can help us not just survive, but flourish in the presence of suffering.

And, we hope to understand that as humans who have at times suffered greatly like the Apostle Paul, are able to see our stories with a new understanding of God's presence and unfailing love.

General Adult Class: Lessons from the Life of Joseph

On the surface, the life of Joseph is one of the greatest stories ever: a favorite son, kidnapped and enslaved, becomes a leader within the most powerful empire in his world and sets up his family to become a great people. On a broader level, the life of Joseph shows the scope of God's providence across all generations. And at a personal level, Joseph provides an example for how we can overcome hardships in order to partner with God for the sake of God's people.

The Collective (Young Adults) Class: Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools: An Invitation to the Wonder & Mystery of Prayer

Prayer is the source of Jesus’s most astonishing miracles and the subject of Jesus’ most audacious promises, and yet, most people – even most Bible-believing Christians – find prayer to be boring, obligatory, disappointing, confusing, or, most often, all of the above.

Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools is our invitation to trade our conceptions and misconceptions about prayer for prayer in its purest form: a vital, sustaining, powerful connection with God that is more real and alive than you could have ever imagined. This semester, we will address common roadblocks to prayer and experience practical tools that will give us confidence to come to God just as we are.

This study is perfect for people who are looking to deepen their devotion and are seeking to catch a fresh excitement about meeting with God in prayer.
