Kingdom, Come (Part 1): Who's In Charge Here?

#1 Listen to “Kingdom, Come (Part 1): Who's In Charge Here?”

Consider this Sunday morning’s lesson. You can listen here: http://bit.ly/1gCDfNL

Or watch here [video will be posted by Monday each week]: www.vimeo.com/rrcoc

What stuck out to you as interesting?

Did you encounter any challenging or re-orienting truth?

How’d it make you feel?

#2 Dominion

Read Psalm 103 together.

Why is it good to be in God's "dominion"? According to this Psalm, what are the reasons God makes a good ruler?

Have you ever been ruled by a bad ruler (maybe a boss, parent, or older sibling)? What's that like?

#3 Everything

This week we said, "Everything is better when God is in charge."

Think through this list of topics. How are they better when God is in charge?

  • sex
  • relationships
  • work
  • food
  • play
  • spending money
  • church

Do you have any experience in failing to give God control over one of these things? How'd it work out?

#4 Bigger

Read Luke 13:18-21

If the "kingdom of God" is the reign of God, what do these parables teach us?

How do you see the kingdom of God getting bigger? In you? In your family? In your church? In the world?

If the reign of God isn't reaching further and further into our lives, always taking new territory what might that indicate?

#5 Resurrection

“Jesus' resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven.”

N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church

How does this strike you?

Have you ever encountered what you could describe as a colony of life? What does it look like to "colonize earth with the life of heaven"?

#6 WATCH

Check out this paraphrase of scripture from poet Amena Brown: https://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=KWLZ7NNX

What does the resurrection have to do with the kingdom coming in you?
