Big Picture (Part 2): Future Maker

#1 Listen to “Big Picture (Part 2):  Future Maker”

Consider this Sunday morning’s lesson. You can listen here: http://bit.ly/1gCDfNL

Or watch here [video will be posted by Monday each week]: www.vimeo.com/rrcoc

What stuck out to you as interesting?

Did you encounter any challenging or re-orienting truth?

How’d it make you feel?

#2 Look Ahead

On Sunday we said, “Today is connected to tomorrow.”

Have you experienced that to be true? What experiences or memories come to mind when you hear that sentence?

Name one event, interaction, or decision in the past that you can point to as a defining moment in your life, a time when things started to change for the better (or worse). This doesn’t have to be deep—any little beginning works.

#3 Consequential

Read Lamentations 1:1-9.

What happened to Judah?

How did she end up in such a terrible place?

In verse 9 we read, “she did not consider her future.”

  • If Judah had considered her future how might it have changed? What could she have done to avoid the future she reaped?

On Sunday we said, “We are free to choose whatever actions we desire, but we are not free to choose the consequences of the actions tomorrow.”

  • Have you ever regretted a decision after the consequences rolled in? In other words, have you ever done anything without considering your future?
  • How did it work out? Share a story about a time when you didn’t expect the consequences that ultimately came from a decision. Funny or serious—either one.

#4 Gardening 101

When it comes to gardening, we all want less weeds and more fruit. The same is true with our hearts.

What do we need to do to make that happen?

What kinds of seeds do you want to plant today? Make a list.

What weeds do you need to pull?

#5 Pray Ahead

One way to plant now is to pray now.

What things do you want to reap in the future that you can start praying for today?

Make a list as a group, with each group member sharing a future goal. Now pray over the list.

Have each member commit to praying for one short term goal every day for a week.

#6 HEADS UP

This is the last weekly small group discussion guide until fall. This summer we encourage you to find other ways to grow closer to one another and to God. If you’re a small group leader you can find suggestions in our most recent small group leaders email update.

Just in case you hate the idea of discussing something other than Sunday’s sermon (or you simply love discussing Sunday’s sermons so much), we’ll put out a discussion guide at the beginning of each series. It won’t be long, but it will provide direction and helpful accessory content.

Be sure to talk to your group this week and make plans for the summer! We’re excited to see what God does through our small groups this season!
