Even Greater (Part 3): King

TO START: As Easter approaches, the Even Greater sermon series seeks to answer two key questions: "What made Jesus great?" and "Why do we need Him?" This series explores how Jesus fulfilled and transformed the three key roles through which God worked in the Old Testament—prophet, priest, and king.

In our final week, we focused on how Jesus is the greater King, perfectly embodying all that God designed humanity to be in the world. We concluded by reflecting on how those who are united with Jesus are invited to serve God by using their power to partner with Him in bringing about His desired future.

DISCUSS:

(1.) Who is the most impactful leader you've personally encountered? What made their leadership so meaningful in your life?

(2.) Of the four core questions every person wrestles with—identity, value, purpose, and agency—which one do you reflect on the most/least? (four question framework built off of the work of Roy Baumeister)

(3.) Re-read the description of humanity in Hebrews 2:6–8. What stories or sayings of Jesus reflect this view of God’s design and dignity for humanity?

(4.) How would you explain the statement in Hebrews that Jesus is now crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering and death? 

(5.) What area of your life feels hardest to fully surrender or give your loyalty to Jesus, his kingdom, and his way of living?

BLESSING PRAYER:

To close small group, we invite you to continue the practice of blessing prayer together. Blessing prayer is the practice of bringing God’s heart and head down to someone in a moment of prayer. The model has three steps 1) Listen: take time to slow down and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to us through words, images, Scriptures, etc. (seek God’s desires for this person) 2) Name: point to God’s character (name who God is) and then secondly, name the way God views that person or his people as a whole. 3) Bless: bless what God has done and is doing and ask for God to reveal anything He would like for you to boldly share over that person. Consider praying over someone who has shared what they feel hardest to fully surrender and ask for the King of blessing to reveal Himself in that area.
