The Miraculous Work of Jesus (Part 1): Miraculous Change
TO START: In this series, we walk through the seven miracles—or “signs,” as John calls them—recorded in his Gospel. Each miracle beautifully reveals both Jesus’ identity (who He is and what He’s like) and His work (what He does and will ultimately accomplish).
In John 2, we see that Jesus not only cares deeply but also brings miraculous change through servants who are willing to faithfully follow what He tells them to do, even in the mundane or meticulous tasks.
TO READ: John 2:1-11
TO DISCUSS:
(1.) What’s an event you went into with low expectations that actually turned out to be a great time?
(2.) After reading John 2:11, why do you think Jesus chose to perform miracles as part of His ministry?
(3.) Jesus revealed His identity and work by responding to a social crisis at a wedding. What part of your life do you find hardest to believe really matters to Him?
(4.) Can you share a time when partnering with Jesus brought you joy?
(5.) What people or events in your life feel like an invitation to serve Jesus, even through simple, every day acts?
TO CLOSE/TO PRAY:
Consider inviting each group member to share one thing they would like for God to do in their life through small groups this Fall. We invite you then to close small group by spending time asking God to bless the work that your small group is longing for Him to do in the group individually and collectively. Close by praying this section of Psalm 128 over the group.
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to Him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity.”
