Seen (Part 3): Seeing The Meek

TO START: Today, we are in the third week of our series, Seen, where we are relearning to see the world and people the way Jesus saw them during his time on earth. Each week, we are walking through one of Jesus' Beatitudes. 

This week, we unpack Jesus’ assurance to those who are meek, or those who, in the midst of challenges and difficulties, resist defensiveness, retaliation, and self-serving ways. When circumstances put them in a position to display meekness, they embody what it looks like to trust in God’s future realities, even when they aren’t visible yet.

TO DISCUSS:

(1.) What’s an area of your life where it’s difficult for you to be misperceived or misunderstood?

(2.) What do you think the world’s impression of meekness is? Before Sunday, did you see meekness in the lives of Moses, David, or Jesus?

(3.) Of the three postures of meekness we explored, resisting defensiveness, retaliation, and self-serving ways, which do you find most beautiful in the midst of hard circumstances?

(4.) When have you seen someone trust that the future belongs to the Lord and live accordingly?

TO PRAY:

To close this week, spend some time praying together. Ask the Lord: Who in your world is embodying meekness and needs to be seen, honored, and encouraged this week?

One way to do this could be to sit in silence with this question before the Lord and ask for God to highlight a specific person. Then, either have folks turn to the group member closest to them to share who they’re praying for OR everyone can share with the whole group. Then, spend a few minutes praying for those people together. Finally, ask God to show you one way you can love and honor that person this week.
