The People of Jesus (Part 4): People of Proclamation

TO START: In our summer series, The People of Jesus, we’re walking through the letter of 1 Peter. This portion of Scripture offers deep assurance to the people of Jesus—especially when our faith initiates challenges, tension, or unforeseen opportunities.

This week’s message focused on the assurance we have as people of proclamation. Over the course of the rest of the series, we will have trimmed down discussion guides in light of being summer as many groups are taking breaks but we wanted to provide a frame for discussion for those of y’all still meeting!

TO READ: 1st Peter 3:13-22

TO DISCUSS:

(1.) This week's message unpacked how followers of Jesus are called to be people of proclamation. When we forget this posture, we often drift either toward assimilation (blending in) or retaliation (reacting harshly). Which of these are you more prone to in your faith and why?

(2.) Can you recall a time when you had an opportunity to live out 1 Peter 3:15—being ready to share the reason for the hope within you? What unfolded in that moment?

TO PRAY

To close small group, we invite you to spend praying for this reality to be realized in the hearts of each person in your small group and in this church for the sake of the world:

“As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord”
